Dr. Mabel Jones Matthews is widely recognized as an extraordinary mentor with 45 years of experience spanning Higher Education and the Federal Government. Her faith-based approach to leadership and mentoring has profoundly influenced numerous scholars and professionals in business, marketing, and STEM education. By guiding her mentees to uncover their innate talents, she instills confidence and empowers them to achieve their personal and professional goals.Mabel’s academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern University, an MBA from Atlanta University, and an EdD from the University of Cincinnati.
Decades ago, two persistent whispers from the Holy Spirit resonated in her heart, sparking the inspiration to write Hearing God’s Whispers: Testimonies of Hope, Healing, Obedience, and Spiritual Clarity. Her deeply personal testimony, recounting her own “God Whisper” experience, is a cornerstone of the book.After retiring from NASA in 2014, Dr. Matthews settled in North Carolina, where she channels her passions into gardening, nature walks, and leading the Circle of Hope Foundation. This foundation advocates for cross-generational support, creating “circles of hope” to uplift individuals with unfulfilled dreams or challenges. Through divine guidance and practical support systems, the foundation helps them realize their aspirations.
Dr. Matthews is an active member of Christian Faith Baptist Church in Raleigh, where she serves in various ministries that reflect her unwavering commitment to social justice, intergenerational outreach, and legacy-building.She is also the proud mother of Dr. Delisia Raychelle Jones Matthews, a tenured professor of marketing and brand management at North Carolina State University. Together, they serve with pride in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and The Links, Incorporated.

Approximately thirty years ago, Dr. Mabel Jones Matthews profoundly entered my life through three divine whispers. In August 1996, during a Sunday worship service, God spoke to the pastor, Dr. Matthews, and me, initiating a transformative journey. After the service, where I preached on “People You Will Meet in Life's Darkest Hour,” Dr. Matthews, then the Dean of Academic Affairs at a local college, invited me to teach a religious studies class. Guided by the Holy Spirit, I eagerly accepted and committed to a 26-year tenure at the college, impacting countless students through Biblical teachings and Christian mentoring. These three whispers underscored the importance of obeying God's guidance.
